I attended the USGP on July 2, 06. This is my first time watching F1 race live. I have to say it is super fun to feel the F1 engine sound and see real F1 race car. I got a J stand seat and facing the first few corners. Unfortunately when the race was started, I paid too much attention to see if Alonso could overtake Schumy at Turn 1 and 2. At the time I turned my head back to Turn 1, I saw car wrecks were all over the place. :O Audience harrahing sound during the start were even stronger than F1 engine sound and even the car crash sound.. Simply amazing!!!
The only complain I had was Indy Speedway and F1 teams did not put any modern F1 show car on display at Race Village or track side. When I went to downtown Indianapolis, I was lucky to see Team McLaren put their MP4/20 in 06 livery just outside of Conrad Hotel. Tons of spectator were surrounding the cars and taking pic. I guess even McLaren drivers were staying at Conrad Hotel too as I heard some fans were gathering around the hotel entrance and yelling for 'Kimi Kimi!!'.. very interesting. Okay, let's enjoy the pic here. |
(July 5, 2006)
Indy Speedway Tower.
Die hard Kimi fan
Ferrari during practice. Pit crews were working on Massa's car.
Mclaren and Renault during qualifying. McLaren ran really few laps during practice and qualifying too.
Last section of qualifying section. Last 10 cars were lining up to get fastest lap. All spectators at grand stand
After qualifying session, I went to downtown Indianapolis for lunch. McLaren put a MP4/20 in 06 livery in front of Conrad Hotel at downtown Indianapolis. The car just looks so sharp. After seeing the car with my bare eye, I could say the silver color is abit on darker side and only a little bit chrome look (but not chrome.)
The only real chrome part is the front wing element. The wing plate with Fly Emirates logo is actually Flourecent Red. Just like old Mclaren red or Tamiya TS36. Very sharp looking scheme. If you compare the wing end plate and horizontal wing element, you can tell the silver paint difference.
